Benefits

Very few credit cards can actually help you pay off your debt, but Chase Slate® is an exception. It might lack flash, but it has some important features for clearing your debt. There is a $0 introductory balance transfer fee for the first 60 days, which gives you some time to pay off other balances. There is also an intro APR of 0% for 15 months - a much longer grace period than other cards offer. A 15.99%-24.74% Variable will apply after. Plus, without an annual fee, you’ll save even more money.

Things to Consider

If you’re interested in this card for its debt payoff potential, it’s important to have a plan. After the first 60 days, your introductory balance transfer fee goes up to 5% or $5 (whichever is greater), which can get steep when you’re trying to save money. Also, after your first 15 months at a 0% APR, that number shoots up to an ongoing rate of 15.99%-24.74% Variable. If you miss those deadlines and still have a balance, you’re going to start racking up charges. You will also need pretty decent credit to be accepted for Chase Slate, so consider that when applying.

Our Verdict

This card may not have flashy rewards, but if you want to get rid of debt, the Chase Slate® is hard to beat. Pair that with stellar user reviews, no annual fee and free FICO® scores, and you have one of the best balance transfer cards available.

Benefits

If you’re a consistent Costco shopper, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi has some eye-catching rewards. Those include 4% cash back on eligible gas purchases for the first $7,000 per year (1% after), 3% cash back on eligible travel purchases and restaurants, 2% cash back on all other Costco purchases and 1% cash back on everything else. As a bonus, you won’t pay an annual fee while you have a Costco membership, which costs as little as $55 annually.

Things to Consider

The hefty rewards are amazing, but they can only be redeemed at Costco once a year. That is enough to make or break your interest in this card because while rewards are plentiful, they are seriously limited. The APR is fairly average at 16.24% variable, but there is also a 0% foreign transaction fee.

Our Verdict

If you are a habitual Costco shopper and know your rewards would be put to good use, we think this is an excellent rewards card option. A 4% cash back reward isn’t very common, so it’s an impressive number to see. If you’re already a Costco member, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi is a no-brainer, even if it doesn’t act as your everyday card. The card offers serious rewards as long as you don’t mind redeeming them at Costco.

Methodology SmartAsset has developed a quantitative and independent system for evaluating the relative value of a credit card offer versus other offers in the marketplace. Our system evaluates cards based exclusively on their features, such as their rewards earning rate (if applicable), fees, perks, and rewards program redemption options. The annual rewards values on this page are calculated using annual spending assumptions in various categories such as, but not limited to, gas, restaurants, airfare, and US supermarkets. These spending assumptions are built on research that SmartAsset has conducted on existing secured credit cardholders. Our promise with our credit card recommendations is that we will always strive to have the most comprehensive, accurate, and objective method of evaluating credit card offers.
